Minerals

Minerals are inorganic compounds (compounds without carbon).

The body cannot produce minerals on its own, but needs them for many bodily functions (e.g. bone and muscle regeneration). It is thus essential to ingest these substances via food. Mineral water contains minerals in a solute state – the body can thus absorb and utilize them especially well (bio-availability). With a balanced diet it is usually not possible to ingest an excessive amount of minerals. If an oversupply of minerals occurs it is mostly due to an excessive ingestion of mineral supplements.

 

When mineral water contains at least 1,500 milligrams of minerals per liter it may be labeled “high mineral content“. Thanks to their origin in the Volcanic Eifel, Gerolsteiner Sparkling and Gerolsteiner Medium are especially rich in

well-balanced minerals (Total mineral content: 2,479 mg/l).
