1888 - Gerolsteiner's starting shot
During drilling operations, mining director Wilhelm Castendyck discovers water containing carbonic acid. He founds the Gerolsteiner Sprudel GmbH and bottles Gerolsteiner mineral water for the first time – in clay jugs.
In the founding year, the mineral water from Gerolstein already boasts an advocate that is still known today: Gentleman Privy Aulic Councilor Prof. Dr. R. Fresenius recommends Gerolsteiner due to its high natural carbonic acid content.
1895 - Gerolsteiner Down Under
Gerolsteiner receives its first purchase order from Australia. By postcard, the company Büsch & Heiliger from Sydney orders Gerolsteiner mineral water by the crateload. Whether or not all of the clay jugs survived the long sea voyage is unknown.
